There is much we can learn from each other, from our friends. Those who care about us, who respect us most probably >>>
know you best. They may be the first ones you go to for an honest opinion, and possibly the last ones to volunteer and share their candid thoughts... unless they are probed. We may need to have a heart to heart talk and let them know we genuinely seek their advice, their input... their feedback, for better or worse. A good friend has much invested in us, likewise, they have much to loose if they insult, hurt or embarrass you. Why risk being upfront about advice which may be negatively received?
Perhaps we can, as Oedipus Rex realized his limited vision, acknowledge our own. What would happen, if we decide... Make a -short list- of those I most respect, and explain to them, "You are my friend, and as such... I invite you to know that I have come to realize within myself that life is too short to allow my ego to shield me from rewarding experiences and knowledge of myself, my friends, and the world around us. I ask you, be my friend, and tell me how it is. I will respect you for sharing your full and unvarnished thoughts and feelings with me about ________________. I invite the jolt to my ego... it is the only way forward. And be forceful with me if I don't hear you the first time. It's not that I'm ignoring you, perhaps I'm not picking up the smoke signals and need some thunder and lightning to kick up awareness and action within me.
How much would be gained, how much more fun would we have, by challenging ourselves to question our beliefs... to discover more. To seek truth. How much would we learn from those who know us and can give a second, or third opinion... an alternate point of view... from others who are not trapped within the confines of our own perceptions. What would it be like if... our friends had an open invitation and were confident enough to share with us things which we could significantly benefit from... the information bites we don't even think of to request input about... What would it be like to have a friendly army of informants to help us battle our limited perspective... to win our dreams, hopes, our future vision.
